Belgian Coast Route

The Belgian Coast Route (Belgische Kustroute) is included as layer on the Geocommons OpenStreetmap, and as track in the downloadable GPX file. Use this route to get on the LF1 coming from ferry port Zeebrugge or Oostende.

Belgian Coast Route
The Belgian coast route runs almost completely close to the coast, sometimes on the boulevard, but also on bike paths alongside busy roads in this densely populated area. This route is also signposted as LF1, which is rather confusing, especially where the route is shared with the "official" LF1. On these signs, the coast route is called Kust Fietsroute and the real LF1 indicated as Noordzee-Vlaanderen fietsroute.

'Original' North Sea Route

Some publications talk about "integrating" the North Sea Route with the Belgian Coast Route in the future, which seems to mean the Belgian part of the LF1 will ever be changed to the coastal route. However this suggested alternative for the Belgium section has currently no connection with the French part of the LF1 from Boulogne-sur-Mer, and at the Dutch side the two routes cross the border at different points a few kilometres from each other.

To get on the signposted LF1 coming from the Belgian Coast Route, follow cycle network intersections  45 - 29 - 32 - 37 - 10
